Caroline Deane graduated from among other establishments the British School in Rome, Beijing’s Central Academy of Art and London’s Byam Shaw School of Art. In recent years she has been exhibiting her work both in China and in London. She has also been exhibited regularly with several central London art galleries as well as being featured annually in national art fairs both in and outside of London since 2002.
As a painter she describes herself as a classically influenced contemporary artist. Her oil paintings and figure sketches draw upon inspiration from ancient Chinese art and philosophy; deriving more the ideas behind traditional oriental painting than the painting itself. Painting largely on linen and pre-prepared surfaces she allows the surface beneath the painting to leak through and have a voice of its own.
Having spent significant amounts of time both living and studying in China she is now based in the UK alternating between her studios both in Devon and London.
